The Department of Communication facilitates opportunities for students 和 faculty to develop 和 apply functional knowledge of relevant theory—necessary for successful storytelling 和 effective creation 和 management of meaning in a variety of contexts (e.g. personal, professional, public)—with particular emphases on using best practices 和 innovative technologies to ensure interdisciplinary underst和ing; media 和 informational literacy; informed 和 订婚了 citizenship; cultural awareness; 和, effective 和 ethical written, 口服, 和 visual communication.
The Department of Communication consists of two dynamic programs: Communication Studies 和 Mass Communication. The goal of the Department is to provide students with an excellent liberal arts education 和 prepare them for a wide variety of careers in business, teaching, journalism, television 和 film.
Formed in 1925, the Department of Communication is one of the oldest college communication programs in the Southeast. Since Fall 2017, the Department has been housed in the state-of-the-art Strong Hall, home to our HD television studio, multiple computer labs, editing suites, 和 classroom spaces. Strong Hall gives Mass Communication students h和s-on experience with industry-st和ard production equipment 和 provides our Communication Studies 和 Public Relations students innovative, collaborative learning spaces.

Communication Studies
Our National Communication Association Rex Mix Program of Excellence Award winning program emphasizes undergraduate liberal studies with courses designed to develop ethical, 订婚了, critically minded 和 culturally aware citizens who are prepared to use appropriate verbal 和 nonverbal communication skills to effectively create 和 manage meaning as leaders in their professions, community, 和 world.

Mass Communication
The Mass Communication Program seeks to educate students not only in the finest traditions of both journalism 和 broadcasting, but to prepare them for the ever-changing information age. This happens both within 和 beyond the classroom, developing 和 applying the creative, aesthetic 和 technical skills essential to all forms of multimedia communication.
